Boy, the spammers are sure out tonight, aren't they? I've been avoiding adding a word verification hurdle to the comments, but if I start getting much more, I'll have to succumb.
I think people are getting used to word verifications. I say it's a good way to go. Because if you have to delete each one manually, then the spammers have already won. Actually, no, they have already won anyway, just because of the fear we all feel that they might spam at anytime, any place....
For them to truly win, I'd have to allow my fear of their spamming to stop me from posting to this blog. And I swear that will never happen. (Actually, I guess I might get bored or too busy at some point, so I could stop blogging, but it would never be out of fear.)
For them to have won, you wouldn't have to stop blogging altogether, you'd just have to somehow alter your blogging life in some way, however miniscule--because that's they're real objective, to cause us to alter our lives in some way, any way, however trivial.
But adding a word verification would fit your definition of altering the blogging experience. Actually, my deleting spam comments already meets that. Does that mean the spammers have already won? That there's no escape from a spam victory?
Exactly. They have already won. We might as well concede that victory. Adding the word verification would just make less work on your part in the future, and that's a worthy goal.
