Answers to Unasked Questions
The Prez was back again yesterday with further excuses for having signed off on illegal wiretaps of American citizens. "It seems logical to me that if we know there's a phone number associated with al Qaeda or an al Qaeda affiliate and they're making phone calls, it makes sense to find out why." That does make sense. I don't really disagree with anything in that statement--and I'd be surprised if you could find very many people who do. Unfortunately, it has nothing whatsoever to do with approving illegal spying. Of course we want to know why al Queda or an al Queda affiliate is making phone calls and what they're saying. It's so obvious that I can't imagine any court turning down a request for a warrant to monitor such activity. So why couldn't Bush request the warrant? If it's the slam dunk it appears to be, why go around the law and avoid the very court set up to provide just such a warrant? Well, he doesn't seem to have much at all to say on that topic. Alas, for the time being, anyway, the Prez insists on only responding to the questions we all already know the answers to.

It's a brilliant piece of strategery that has worked for them before, so why shouldn't it be working again?
