I'm glad to see this year that Major League Baseball has held itself to only one official game before the real Opening Day has rolled around. Pre-Opening Day games have always seemed like they should be thought of more like a preview or a trailer for the upcoming season. (If teams play "official games" and then go back to play more spring training games, as Oakland and Seattle did last year, that makes the sensation even more blatant.) So the Rangers played the league-relocated Astros (don't get me started) last night, and that's nice for them, but as far as I'm concerned, today is Opening Day, when 12 games throughout the major leagues (and, in another unfortunate Bud Selig development, between the major leagues) are actually getting under way. Go Red Sox!
