After the Game

I said last night that if the Bears team that beat the Seahawks and the Saints came onto the field that they'd leave triumphant, but that team didn't show up. Rex Grossman has been an inconsistent quarterback, although he'd really risen to the occassion during the playoffs. Unfortunately, he didn't rise to it tonight, and his team didn't come out winners.

Congratulations to Tony Dungy, the first black coach to take his team all the way to a Super Bowl victory, and his champion Indianapolis Colts.

From a 'Da Bears' standpoint the game was like the last two presidential elections. The night started out looking good and then got progressively more grim. At least there was no question about the victors having played by the rules. At one point, near the end, one could see on Lovie Smith's face the sadness of knowing he would not be the first black coach to win a superbowl. Not quite as great, sort of like being the second guy to climb Mt. Everest. Maybe he can get Debra Dickerson to prove his opposite is not really Black.
