Happy Dictionary Day!
Looks like I jumped the gun with my vocabulary post from a couple of days ago. I should've held it until today. In honor of Noah Webster's 247th birthday, today is Dictionary Day. Feel free to join in the gala Dictionary Day festivities by leaving your favorite word in comments.

Don't know about a favorite word now, but many of my college students (as in at least 4 in the last few weeks) have used peak in this way, "the teacher peaked the students' interests." After correcting it a couple of times, I actually looked it up to make sure I wasn't getting it wrong.
Since it's Dictionary Day, I'll plug my favorite online dictionary: onelook.com. It's like one-stop dictionary shopping.
My current favorite word (though I haven't actually tried to look it up) I will describe thusly:
You know the surgery to remove your appendix? That's an appendectomy. And the surgery to remove your tonsils? That's a tonsillectomy. And the surgery to change a woman into a man? That's an addadictomy.
i suppose your interest could peak, but not sure it can be peaked.
